Metachroma. Reframing an exhibition system for wool and cashmere through color, contrast, and material intensity.

Metachroma was developed as the next chapter of an existing exhibition system, using the same spatial structure but giving it a completely new visual identity through color, contrast, and material intensity. Created for SpinExpo Shanghai, the project showed how a booth could change significantly from one season to the next without being rebuilt from zero.

The main idea was simple: keep the system, change the atmosphere. Instead of starting again, the installation was re-dressed to create a different emotional and visual experience, proving that continuity and renewal could exist together.

For this edition, the warm and softer exterior of the previous season was replaced by charcoal tones, deep blacks, and textured fabrics. The outer shell worked as a visual frame, preparing visitors for a stronger and more intense interior environment.

Inside the installation, the imagery became more saturated and expressive. Double-sided prints introduced contrast, with colorful macro compositions of yarns on one side and denser fiber mixes against black backgrounds on the other. This gave the space a layered visual field that changed with movement and perspective.

The images were developed through physical experimentation, with combinations of fibers and yarns composed by hand before filming. Macro shots captured inside real production laboratories revealed texture, structure, and chromatic interaction, turning technical material into something more visual, tactile, and expressive.

What made Metachroma especially valuable was not only its visual impact, but the efficiency of the method behind it. A stable spatial framework made it possible to reinterpret the installation season after season, using image, fabric, and atmosphere to generate something new with minimal structural intervention.

This made the project useful beyond a single fair. It showed how an exhibition concept can keep evolving over time while staying recognizable, giving brands a way to renew their presence without losing continuity.

For Rack, the project remains a strong example of how a good exhibition system can balance consistency and transformation, allowing material communication to stay fresh, immersive, and visually distinct from one season to the next.
